When people search the internet they are mostly looking for answers, or a solution to a problem. If you have a site with 1 or 2 pages then you will be limited in exposure vs a site with 1 - 200 pages. In addition, Search engines, especially search engines like Google love content.

Every page in your site can be optimized for specific phrases or keywords. It is much easier to make a page focused on 1 narrow topic rank well in the search engines than it is to make 1 page rank highly for a broad topic or multiple search phrases. Use content to increase your exposure in the search engines. If you have valuable content then people will begin to link to your many pages. Each link will increase your overal popularity which will make all your other pages more visible. Given time you can build a lot of traffic just from building solid content in your site and doing at least a little search engine optimization with each page.

The web is primarily a communication tool that propogates information and understanding. Add to the value of the web by making your site content rich and valuable to others and no doubt you will enjoy success.

There are many writers who will let you put their work in your web pages, so long as you keep their name and resources information. Do not steal content! - this will no doubt cause you copyright problems and ruin your reputation also.
