Inktomi is a provider of search results to many other search engines like MSN, AOL, iWON, HotBot.. Each of these search engines takes Inktomi results and filters them to provide their own results.

Inktomi does factor in link popularity but a well optimized page will do well in the Inktomi index, especially if your keywords are not highly competitive.

Whereas other search engines can take as much as two months to reflect changes, Inktomi updates its index every 48 hrs. This is their claim, but we have found it to be more like once per week. This lets you make changes and see fairly quickly how your changes impacted your rankings in the Inktomi index.

To have any real hope of being listed in Inktomi you must pay per URL submitted. $39 for the 1st URL and then $25 per URL after that. Positiontech is the easiest way to submit sites to Inktomi.

Inktomi likes text pages. Make sure your keyword / key phrase is in the top 1/3 of the page.
